Data Miner 2 is PJM’s data access tool, described by PJM as giving members and non-members faster and more reliable access to the public data formerly posted on pjm.com. It offers improved performance, data quality monitoring, and a searchable interface across PJM’s public data feeds.
Anyone can search and filter the data without an account. Holding pjm.com credentials adds the ability to run automated queries through the APIs.
How it gets used on a real project
PJM covers 13 states and the District of Columbia, which makes it the relevant market for a large share of East Coast solar, New Jersey included. Data Miner is where you go for the actual locational marginal prices at a node, historical load, and generation data rather than a summary of them.
It is also the best free way to learn how a wholesale market really behaves. Pulling a year of hourly LMP at a single node and looking at when prices actually spike teaches more about merchant risk and storage value than any explainer will. Every ISO runs something comparable; if your projects sit elsewhere, find the equivalent for CAISO, ERCOT, MISO or NYISO.
