US Solar Market Insight is the quarterly report produced jointly by the Solar Energy Industries Association and Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables. It covers installation volumes across residential, commercial, community and utility-scale segments, manufacturing capacity, state-level breakdowns, job numbers, market valuations, and forward demand projections.
The Q3 2026 edition, published 10 September 2026, reports 11.4 GWdc installed in Q2 2026 and notes that installed U.S. solar capacity is now enough to power more than 50 million homes. The executive summary is free on SEIA’s site; the full report is purchased through Wood Mackenzie, with member discounts.
How it gets used on a real project
This is the number people quote. When a deck needs U.S. installation volume, segment mix, or a state ranking, this is the source that will not be argued with, and the free executive summary usually carries enough for that purpose. It is also the fastest way to see whether what you are experiencing in your own pipeline is a market trend or a you problem: if residential is contracting nationally, that reframes a slow quarter.
