Renewable Energy Asset Management
Free asset management training that shows how operating renewable energy projects are monitored, maintained and optimized to protect investor returns across decades of operation.

Asset Management Explained
Asset management is the discipline of maximizing the performance and value of operating renewable energy assets. Asset managers monitor production, administer contracts, manage warranties and O&M, oversee reporting and invoicing, and mitigate risks to protect investor returns.
The Energy Academy shows you how each of these responsibilities fits together across an asset’s operating life, so you can see how the work protects long-term value and where you can contribute.

From Handover to Repowering
Asset management starts where construction ends. Explore the six stages that keep an operating project performing, compliant and bankable across its multi-decade life.
01Accept the asset at commercial operation: verify commissioning, collect as-builts, warranties and contracts, and set the performance baseline.
02Track production, availability and performance against forecasts and guarantees to catch underperformance early.
03Direct O&M providers through preventive and corrective work, site inspections and warranty claims.
04Manage PPAs, leases, interconnection and service contracts so every obligation, notice and milestone is met.
05Deliver financial, technical and compliance reporting, invoicing and reconciliations to investors, lenders and offtakers.
06Improve performance, manage insurance and risk, and plan for end of warranty, repowering or decommissioning.
Key Insight
Construction builds the asset once — asset management protects its value every day for decades.

Asset management is the work of maximizing the performance and value of operating projects over their multi-decade lives. Asset managers monitor production, administer contracts, manage maintenance and warranties, deliver reporting, and mitigate risk to protect investor returns.
An asset manager reviews performance data against forecasts and guarantees, oversees O&M providers, tracks contract and compliance obligations, manages invoicing and reporting, and coordinates the response when equipment underperforms or issues arise.
Operations and maintenance focuses on the physical upkeep of the system, such as inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Asset management is broader and more commercial, overseeing financial performance, contracts, reporting, and risk, often directing O&M providers as one part of the role.
Performance guarantees are contractual commitments, often from equipment suppliers or O&M providers, that a project or component will meet specified output or availability levels. Asset managers track performance against these guarantees and pursue remedies when targets are missed.
Investors, lenders, and offtakers rely on accurate, timely reporting to understand how an asset is performing and whether obligations are met. Strong reporting builds trust, supports financing, and surfaces issues before they erode value.
They manage insurance, enforce warranties, monitor performance trends, and maintain contingency plans for equipment failure, weather, and market changes. Proactive risk management preserves both production and the long-term value of the asset.
Backgrounds in finance, engineering, operations, or business all apply. The role rewards analytical skills, contract literacy, and the ability to coordinate technical and commercial stakeholders across a portfolio.
Paths range from Asset Management Analyst to Asset Manager, Senior or Lead Asset Manager, and Director or VP of Asset Management. As the installed base of renewable assets grows, demand for professionals who can protect and optimize that value continues to rise.
