The 50 States Reports (N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center)

The 50 States Reports are a quarterly series from the N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center at North Carolina State University, the same center that runs DSIRE. Each report reviews a quarter’s state policy and regulatory actions, summarized by the center’s state policy experts, with links to primary sources, summary graphics and analysis.

The series has three tracks: 50 States of Solar, 50 States of Grid Modernization and 50 States of Electric Vehicles. A free executive summary is available for each report, full editions are sold, and all full reports become free after one year. Complimentary copies are offered to state and federal lawmakers, utility commissioners and their staff, consumer advocate offices and state energy offices.

How it gets used on a real project

Distributed solar rules such as net metering and rate design change by state and by quarter. When a project moves into a new state, the latest free executive summary is a fast way to see what has changed recently, and the year-old full reports give the background. Use DSIRE for what exists today, and the 50 States Reports for what is moving.
